Due to the explosion in subscriptions to SA Horseman over the past 18 months, we have reached the inevitable point of charging subscription fees for our magazine. See our notice on the opposite page. Thank you for the excellent feedback and support.

In this issue we turn the spotlight to the demanding discipline of eventing, but from the point of view to give would-be participants a glimpse of what the sport entails.

One of the true legends of the South African equestrian world, is Charlotte Stubbs. Her contributions stretch over many decades and we honour her in this issue for the role she has played in advancing equestrian sports in this country.

Other topics we touch on include the specialisation debate in international Friesian circles, feeding fat to horses, Monday Morning Disease and common horse ailments.

In our training section we take a look at how the Mexicans do it, and also at some schooling principles. Theresa Odendaal visited the Lipizzaner Centre in Kyalami, while I went to find out what the breeding aims of three so-called “traditional” SA Boerperd trainers are. Enjoy the read.
