SA Boerperd drawwers gekies
Drie SA Boerperde is op Senekal gekies om aan amptelike drafwedrenne deel te neem. Die perde is Roemryk Lexion, Roemryk Indiana en Pivaanswaterval Amateur.
Na onderhandeling met hulle eienaars, kan hulle ingeneem word vir afrigting in Durban, om dan teen die Standard Breds in amptelike drafrenne deel te neem.
Tydens die drafren op Senekal, het 16 perde teen mekaar meegeding wat op grond van hul prestasies in twee groepe ingedeel is. Die agt verloorders het in 'n plaatkompetisie verder teen mekaar meegeding, terwyl die agt wenners in 'n halfeindrondte tot vier verminder is. Die vier finaliste het daarna in 'n vier-rondte resies teen mekaar meegeding.
Die finale plasing was: Roemryk Lexion in die eerste plek, Lang Carel Juris tweede, Roemryk Indiana derde, en Pivaanswaterval Amateur in die vierde plek.
Five NQ-levels completed
The Standards Generating Body (SGB) for Equine and Equestrian Qualifications, initiated and chaired by the SANEF national instructors' plan director, Di Pieterse, has reached its goal of finalising and submitting five levels of national qualifications for learners catering to some 22 identified career paths.
The qualifications include some 86 equine/equestrian specific unit standards (subjects) and were drafted over a four year period, combining industry input with the support and guidance from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
As a direct result of the work the SGB, the curriculum for grades 10, 11 and 12 was established with the 2008 school year, seeing the first matric pupils taking their examinations in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Meer as 100 ponies het aan die jongste nasionale Hackneyponie-kampioenskappe op Robertson deelgeneem.
Die bekende Big Shot Romeo van Ronald Hendriks van Kaapstad, het vir die sewende agtereenvolgende jaar die grootkampioenskap in die siertuig verower, met Thys Lourens van Wellington se Salomonsvlei Thunder as die reserwe grootkampioen. Dié twee ponies is ook onderskeidelik aangewys as die kampioene in die siertuig vir ponies bo 12 en bo 5 jaar.
Willie Jacobs van Manenberg het die meeste punte op die skou ingepalm en is as teler van die jaar aangewys.

Nooitgedachter makes name in Africa
The Nooitgedachter gelding, Daydream Winnie Pooh, is fast making a name for himself in Africa by winning most shows that he enters in both Uganda and Kenya.
Exported by Nigel and Gayl Flannegan of Stutterheim's Clifford Stud to Uganda via Kenya in June 2008, he entered his first show two weeks later and won the show pony class.
After six weeks in Kenya, he was transported by road to Uganda where he settled into his new permanent home with his 11-year old owner, Katie Bowser.
In December 2008 Katie and Winnie Pooh travelled back to Kenya to enter the horse of the year show, where again the pair showed their class by winning the children working hunter, children riding pony as well as the children open pony championships, thus qualifying for the grand champion horse and pony under saddle. They crowned their outing with the reserve championship!
The pair is also doing extremely well in dressage, showjumping and eventing, bringing in the rosettes regularly. Exporters, Nigel and Gayl, paid tribute to the Daydream Stud as well as the Bowser family for the dedication in producing such a wonderful pony.
Help for orphaned foals
The South African Equine Veterinary Association's website recently added a button called "Breeders Corner" to the site. The idea is to link up orphan foals with mares that have lost their foals, in order to obtain milk for the foals. This facility is available to everybody.
