Hi you guys well thought I'd share this with you. My father-in-law had cancer and for the last 3 months it was going great and he seemed fine but then suddenly a week after his 69 birthday he passed away. I would just like to share with you his last saddle he was working on for his son's (my hubby) birthday. Unfortunately he couldn't finish it. Everything was handmade.

Louise, it is a beautiful saddle! Your father-in-law must have been a very talented man.
Are you considering having it finished? It would be a great shame if the saddle was never used.

The plan is to get the saddle finished - but we want to use someone that knows what he is doing. Unfortunately my hubby didn't receive the gift of working with leather but rather wood, maybe he would one day have the courage to finish it himself.
This is another saddle he also made.

If you're looking for someone to finish the saddle try Ben Liebenberg at Franco-C saddles. He's done work for me and I can highly recommend him, both for quality and good prices.

Thank you for sharing Louise, what a stunning saddle. I am sorry to hear of the loss of tyour Father-in-law, but what a wonderful legacy to leave. We would love to see photos when it is complete too.

Thank you Chrisco, will keep him in mind but I'll give hubby the decision and on the moment the pain is still raw because Dad passed 4 July 2010. I will definitely show you when the saddle is finished. And maybe if the saddle is used on his first horse and I pray that he will be used to ride once in a while. But I guess it won’t do harm if the saddle doesn’t get used for riding but only for an ornament.
I am so sad I didn’t have the opportunity to take some more pictures of his master work.

Another very talented Western saddlemaker is Jaco Burger in Upington. I'm sure he could also do that saddle justice by finishing it appropriately and properly.
