I need Music ! (Please help)

By CC - 1.5 months ago

In a moment of utter madness at 10 pm on Friday night - I entered the Freestyle musical Kur at The Sanctuary indoor arena. It's for the 14 / 15 August and I have no idea what music to use ! Please if you have any music you think might work let me know ! I'm feeling a little desperate. I'm going to the library today.

Awesome CC!!! I think its a fabulous show to do - well run, well supported, awesome venue.

Hmmm, to choose music you need to make sure it suits your horse. How would you describe your horse? And how would other people see him? Is he light, or bulky? Tall and long legged or more stout? Does he come across as serious or playfull?

What test are you doing? Or shall I rather ask, what's your best pace to work in? If you're going to do lots of trotting, choose that music first and then get something to match the walk and canter. Have you devised a test yet? Remember to choreograph your weakest movements last, so that you first create a good impression.

Good luck, I think Musical Kur is a FUN thing to do and I promise you you will love it. I'm so jealous, wish I could go too!

Satine you've just freaked me out ! yikes so much to work out :)

He's a 16.2 hand bay THB. Elegant, sensitive and a bit fizzy. I'm riding the AEM class and if you come and watch I'll be the one with no colour in my face !

When you used the word elegant I immediately thought of ballet music.

LOL, I'll try to make a plan to be there. My instructor won her class last year so felt very bad that I wasn't there to cheer her on! No, don't stress – remember this is supposed to be FUN. :) The nice thing about the KUR is that everyone knows its hard work to get there and the crowd just cheers you on – regardless of how good or bad its going. So just go out there and enjoy the time out with your horse.

If you're horse is elegant, stay away from heavy, thud-thud, hard bass kind of music. Look for something that is light and floaty and that will accentuate his elegance. You want music that compliments your horse, not overshadows the horse. Don't hide behind the music but use it to show the horse off. :)

So the gum boot dance is a bad idea ? :) I was thinking of going proudly SA with a medeley of some real African classics but maybe that would be a bit corny ? maybe I should just stay with the more traditional classics ? But I want to keep it fun and original.

There are lots of proudly SA bands you can support. :) How about some Freshly Ground or Johnny Clegg?

I quite like the Click, click song would need to see if the big boy moves well to it ? I'm going to the library now - keep me out of trouble on HJ for a while... :)

Going to show my age here,

I have always thought that some of Pink Floyd and Jethro Tulls tracks (orchestral versions) would make fantastic Kur pieces.

Best of luck CC.

I've always loved Bright Blue's "Weeping" and I think that African Sky Blue by Johnny Clegg would definitely suit an elegant TB.

Also Vusi Mahlasela has some truly beautiful protest music, which is worth a listen. Gentle downbeats but very rideable.

Remember this one?

Epona, I agree!

I think Tull's "Life Is a Long Song" is one of the most beautiful pieces of music that could have been written for a canter. I wanted to do a Kur to JT for many years.

Jenny, I agree with that choice.

Was also thinking along the lines of Locomotive breath and Man of Principle. The beat is great, and the natural breaks in the music are great for transitions.
